What is this?

This newsletter started as a place to unravel my existential crisis. I could feel a shift but didn’t know where it was headed, and hoped writing long-form could open my (and your) eyes to bigger questions about identity, creativity, and this (legally blind) human experience.

Now I want this to be a place for exploration. A place to talk about identity and culture, places and their food, cities and their streets. I want to use writing the way I use my camera— to capture the things that interest me with confidence, to pay attention to the world around me and approach it with vigor and vulnerability.

I'm Shabnam, a visually impaired photographer, and ex-pizzaiola born and raised in Los Angeles. Once upon a time, I toured the American West with my band and roamed LA with my pizza ovens. Now, I'm bringing it all together.
